The  Net Zero Online (NZO) module would be a multidisciplinary qualification offered to students across UK universities.

Through weekly online lectures featuring academics and industry experts, the module critically explores different strategies to help the UK achieve its Net Zero CO2 emissions target.

Successful students will receive a recognized NZO certification alongside their degree and universities are saved the cost and time of each developing their own climate education programmes.

The NZO equips students with a deeper understanding of the complex challenges involved in reducing emissions, fostering an educated generation that is engaged in achieving Net Zero.

By linking academic insights with practical industry knowledge, the module encourages students to actively participate in climate solutions.

The NZO provides students with the opportunity to enhance their degrees with a specialized qualification, increasing their employability in sustainability-related sectors.

It also broadens their perspectives on climate issues, giving them the tools to critically assess and contribute to efforts to combat climate change in their future careers.

The module enhances universities' sustainability credentials and creates cross-campus collaboration by encouraging open discussions on climate issues.

Offering the NZO also allows institutions to engage with industry partners, bringing a real-world perspective to academic learning.

The NZO can be expanded beyond the UK, offering an international perspective on achieving Net Zero, and encouraging global collaboration.

Further industry partnerships and accreditation by professional bodies could enhance the program’s credibility, creating a model for environmental education that can be adopted worldwide, making it a cornerstone of sustainability education.
